For example, if you are a certified translator or interpreter with CATTI-2 or have scored 7.5 or 8 in the IELTS exam, or if you have ample on site experience in translation, we can have a try to collaborate with each other.

You Never Know How Important EQ is in Translation

However, maintaining politeness, humility, and prompt responsiveness in communication is equally important. Often, professional skills alone cannot guarantee success; emotional intelligence is also an important aspect.

So, I still hope that everyone can respond promptly and handle matters with diligence. This way, you can show your reliability as a freelance translator or interpreter, and thus attracting more clients for you.

Lately, many friends have been messaging me asking how they can get translation jobs.

Recently, I hired a new translator into our agency. She is incredibly careful about everything. When doing my Chinese to English translation task, she would research all the technical terms and even found the official Chinese name for different organizations, providing improvement suggestions.

For example, when translating the term “Bifida Ferment Lysate” in skincare products, I might have just translated it directly, but she found Estée Lauder’s formula and offered a more professional version.

I would like to share some necessary qualities that professional interpreters should have.

First, a mobile phone with enough online flow is crucial. Or, uploading information and other materials will be time-consuming.

Second, you should download some important Apps to your phone, which have been listed as follows:
WeChat, Skype, whats app, QQ, QQ E-mail, Dazhongdianping, Xiecheng, etc.

Thirdly, we should cultivate a high EQ to make others comfortable.

Example 1:
RJ selected our studio from a translation platform and he thought I am the right person after meeting me. I asked him the reason, and he told me that my quoted price, photos, and attire are professional. And I can reply him as soon as possible.

Example 2:
Every time when I do interpretation work, I will book my tickets and check the route by myself. And I don’t care about some small amounts of money such as the taxi fee. So, cooperating with me has always been pleasing. I am professional in interpretation and business arrangement, so my clients are willing to pay. I never complain about my job since it is my responsibility to do it perfectly.

Suggestion 1:
You should always take a cell phone with power and flow. Taking a charger is important. Saving the cost is needless. Convenience has always been the top priority.

Suggestion 2:
Don’t act like a princess. As professional interpreters, we should learn to care about our clients and judge their feelings according to their facial expressions. Being humorous is also helpful sometimes. I clearly remember that the other day I chose Ms. R as the interpreter for the Shanghai Leather Fair because she replied instantly on WeChat, which left a deep impression on me. Even if you don’t particularly like a client, you should still be professional during work. After the meeting, you can express your feelings freely.

The interpreters with low EQ will act like below:

They will complain about accommodation and distance. They will have no backup plans when meeting troubles. They will always have excuses.

The solution is to enhance personal EQ.

We should learn to please ourselves and maintain good relationships with others so that we can gain more benefits in the future.
