Assuna Translation Member Practice Sharing: Insights into Chinese Interpreter Services

Today, I’d like to share with you about two Chinese interpreter services I engaged last week and this week. Both projects had the same theme and involved the same group of clients, and I feel there may be some underlying causal relationship between them.

Last week, midweek, Assuna asked me if I was available on Thursday and Friday for an interpreting project related to football. The event was a meeting between Manchester City Football Club and a company. So, I spent the whole afternoon preparing, familiarizing myself with football rules, compiling all relevant terminology, learning about the history of Manchester City Football Club and its backers, the Abu Dhabi consortium.

I also researched information on City Football Group. The Vice President of the City Football Group’s Singapore Business Cooperation Department was attending along with officials from their marketing department. The company was great. It even gave us the PPT in advance and explained how the meeting would go later. They asked us to arrive early to review the presentation with us, and they played the promotional video twice at our request.

When we arrived, the boss welcomed us and explained the entire flow of the event. He highlighted key points, making my job easier. Top executives from City Football Group then came, listened to the presentation, and discussed important matters.

Everything went smoothly. I was the main interpreter, with another interpreter helping. The meeting ended early because of their tight schedule, and they didn’t even have time for a meal. Despite this, both parties were very satisfied. They felt I conveyed the information clearly and quickly, showing strong language skills. They hope for future collaboration.

Another Interpretation Assignment for an Evening Banquet

After wrapping up the previous project, yesterday afternoon, I received a sudden message from Assuna, mentioning another interpretation assignment for an evening banquet. At that moment, I suspected it must be hosted by Manchester City Football Group since there was a game the following day.

During the handover, it was mentioned that the client would conduct a test, and sure enough, when I answered the call, it was the senior executive from Zhong’An Group who accompanied Mr. Chen the other day. He immediately recognized me and told me that there was no need to interview me again.

The evening banquet went well. At first, only the president and a senior executive from Zhong’An Group were supposed to give speeches. But then a representative from the Cultural and Tourism Bureau was added, which made me a bit nervous. Luckily, because I had made abundant preparation before, I could stay calm and made no mistakes during the interpretation, which was brief.

During the project, I met many interesting people, such as the host from Shenzhen TV who also hosted the banquet, and representatives from many third-party companies, including my junior apprentice. The project lasted two days, and I learned the importance of preparation.

This experience also expanded my knowledge of football. Before, I had no interest in football, but now I know about La Liga and Serie A. Feeling that I did well is very satisfying for me. This experience has taught me that, we must be brave against challenges.

A New Chapter: From Interpreting to Fitness Coaching with Insights from Assuna

Lately, I have some good news about fitness. Yesterday, I signed up to become a coach at Super Monkey. Soon, I will start my personal training and courses. Now, besides teaching and interpreting, I have a third job, making me more versatile. I’m grateful for Assuna's guidance. She has taught me a lot and helped me understand many things. Her experiences have given me valuable insights.
