First, I want to thank my colleagues for introducing me as the interpreter. I also want to thank Assuna for giving me this opportunity to work as an interpreter at the Texworld fabric exhibition in the US.
After receiving the task, I immediately contacted my client and check their requirements. And I learned about their main businesses and purposes. I tried to learn more professional knowledge. Since I am interested in this field, the learning process is enjoyable. The exhibition lasted for three days and there were not so many people. But the interpretation went smooth.
From this experience, I learn the following points.
1. Prepare in Advance: Even though not all the preparation can be used, it helped expand my knowledge.
2. As professional interpreters, we must get along well with our clients. This point is important since the communication plays a key role in working environment.
3. It is needless to do word for word interpretation. Instead, we must convey the meaning to our clients. When several visitors come to the booth at once, word-for-word interpretation can cause trouble for the client.
After completing the task, I think I should be more active and make faster response in the future. There were still some strange terms, but my clients helped me overcome them. I need to make better preparation in the future and improve my ability so as to become a more professional Chinese English translator. I hope for the next time, I can provide my customer with better translation service.
