First, I want to thank Assuna for giving me the chance to be the interpreter for the translation services for business of German Munich exhibition interpretation project.
After getting the task, I started to prepare for it. I searched for the profile of my client’s company and its business purpose. As a result, I could prepare with a clearer direction.
During the interpretation, everything went smooth, and we shared a meal together after it. My clients praised me for my professional interpretation. Asking for feedback can help me improve myself.
I have summarized some points for this translation services for business interpretation project:
1. Knowing the purpose of clients is important. It is helpful for us to prepare.
2. Paying attention to the atmosphere among clients. As the certified interpreter, we can switch the topic to some daily issues at proper times.
3. Generally, we can know the interest of clients after observation. Then, we can prepare some questions to answer in advance.
4. We must regard our clients as our bosses.
5. Staying abroad for a long time has lowered my Chinese level. In the future, I will read more Chinese literature pieces.
6. During the interpretation, I met some strange terms. Luckily, my clients were familiar with them, and I will study harder in the future.
7. Serving as the interpreter for an exhibition is tiring. I must keep fit all the time.
It was my first time to be the interpreter of the jewelry exhibition. There were so many strange words and I had to prepare some materials so that I could know more about my client’s company and market development status.
1. Concerning this is the biggest jewelry exhibition in Asia, I tried to keep a good appearance during the interpretation.
2. Arriving in advance is important. In this way, I could know the place and scale of each booth.
3. Remember to greet the clients. I searched the information of their products and technologies.
4. Although I am an interpreter, but actually, I have to sell the products in Cantonese, mandarin, and English. And I had to be responsible for adjusting the light of the booth. When diamonds without lights’ shining, they are just stone.
5. Learning to attract customers: When foreign customers looking through our products, I would seize the opportunity and greet them by saying “hi、hello、Good morning sir”,just as simple as you could, reasoning that some people don’t like over-positive greeting, such as following they in the booth. When you catch their attention, then you can invite them to get in.
6. Recognize the real boss: In the fair, the crowd is divided into several types, firstly is the designers, who merely learn the design and keep windows shopping; secondly is the buyer, who always takes the record about the products and prices etc; thirdly is the real boss, who talk little, wear in expensive clothes, with a Rolex watch, and maybe followed by a buyer or an assistant.
7. Be smart: Not only is your outlook smart, but also your mind. Since the clients are in a hurry, you must take notes as fast and clear as you could.
8. Know the need of your clients and your company. It is the easiest way to be a salesman(interpreter).
1. Send your wishes to your client and get an in-time feedback.
2. Take a good review. WITH YOUR MINDSET CLEAR, HELP TO REDUCE THE FAILURE.
3. Early bird deserves better life!!

Thank Assuna for giving me the chance to be the interpreter. Since I have done foreign trade before and has the experience in business liaison interpretation, I can handle the task easily.
My client is a company specializing in pressure container. Before the interpretation, they gave me many materials to prepare. I know something about patent translation, and thus I know the terms of similar industries. So the preparation was not so hard for me.
I arrived early in the morning because I was afraid of being late. After getting there, I looked through the materials again and met my client. We communicated with each other and he told me that there is no need to be nervous.
The other party is a foreign team with eight people (three foreigners and five Chinese). The Chinese people are all engineers and they can use English fluently. While one of the foreigners can use Chinese well.
During the meeting, the clients talked to each other and played the promotional video of their factories. Then, they visited the factory and discussed some issues. My interpretation work finished at noon after the meal.
So, actually speaking, the Chinese side is not so experienced. But as the certified interpreter, I have done my job smoothly. My clients can use English fluently, so I did not have so much work to do.
